Taking Location (Container) Inventory with Your Pocket PC

The advanced modular design of ActiveApplications allows your company to become more productive by using Pocket PC computers. These small and portable devices allow UDS to create well defined applications that can be integrated with the entire ActiveApplications suite of programs. These applications are powerful in what they accomplish but are limited in what they can do by the small size and capacity of the Pocket PC. 

The Location Inventory software will allow you to visit the inventory location to update your on hand quantities when necessary. The inventory person will carry with them a Pocket PC loaded with this software package. This is an inventory management application. 

The series of pictures below are actual screens that are displayed by the Pocket PC running this software. We hope this will serve to demonstrate the easy-to-use interface we've designed into this Pocket PC application. The inventory person will be able to enter all information with little more than a tap on the screen.  This minimizes the possibility of human error while allowing this function to be performed more efficiently. The information entered into this hand held device is then available for the full function Active Accounting program to import. Because the inventory person is not tied to your main computer system, this application can be run anywhere. Only when passing the information to the main computer is it necessary to be connected to your network.

Steps in Procedure

Starting the application on the Pocket PC opens a list of current inventory locations as demonstrated in fig 1. This is the "Select Location" screen as the title on the window indicates. Click on location B10, 68th St 10 Acres, to select it for an update.

The screen changes to the "Select Item" screen in order to show all the items in location B10 and their corresponding on hand quantities. The user can scroll the screen to the right to see more information about the individual items if they choose. Let's say the inventory person finds there are 5 additional 3q size Acers actually making the total on hand quantity 500. An inventory on hand quantity adjustment can easily be made to correct for this discrepancy.  Click on item 00003, Z, B10 Acer...

A numeric pad is displayed to make the entry of quantity 500 easy for the user.  The screen also displays helpful information to remind the user which item they are adjusting and in what location.  The current before change on hand quantity of 495 is preloaded in the Quantity field.

The user keys in the quantity 500. Clicking the Add button will confirm the new quantity on hand just entered. Notice that in fig 4 the screen also displays helpful information to remind the user which item they are adjusting and in what location.

The screen flips back to the "Select Item" screen again and we see the users adjustment has been successful. If the user has further modifications to make to items in this location they may simply select that other item now in the window. If the user would instead desire to work in another inventory location, they can select the Back to Locations button on the window as shown in fig 5.

The information entered into this hand held device is now available for the full function Active Accounting program to import. The Pocket PC is returned to your main computer system, set in its' cradle, and the inventory changes automatically made to your inventory database table. Only when passing the information to the main computer is it necessary to be connected to your network.
